Social media users condemned the racism of a patron who requested that the restaurant not send a Muslim delivery worker.
When placing an order for
food through the Swiggy app, the customer added the instruction in the section
designated for instructions.
Shaik Salauddin, the leader
of a workers' organisation, posted a screenshot of the order request on Twitter
and encouraged Swiggy to act. Without regard to their religion, Salauddin
stated that they wished to deliver food to "one and all."
He tweeted, "Dear
@Swiggy, please take a stance against such a prejudiced proposal.
"We (delivery
personnel) are here to provide meals to everyone, whether they are Hindu,
Muslim, Christian, or Sikh.
Many people on Twitter have
expressed outrage over the discrimination, but the app has not yet responded.
The platform businesses
cannot stand by and watch while gig workers are subjected to such obvious
discrimination in the name of religion, said a Congress MP from Karnataka.
