The National Information Technology Board will be established by the federal government following President Dr. Arif Alvi's acceptance of the National Information Technology Board (NITB) Bill.
The
appointment of two members, including the CEO and a private member, must be
finished before the board is formed, according to Ministry of Information
Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) officials.
According
to the Act, the Board is comprised of nine members, eight of whom—including the
CEO—serve as ex-officio members. One private member has also been appointed to
the Board. On August 4, the federal government gave its approval to Dr. Sohail
Munir's appointment as NITB's CEO. Sohail Munir also received an offer letter
from the MoITT approximately a week and a half ago, but he has not yet replied.
According
to MoITT authorities, Dr. Sohail Munir will advise the ministry of his choice
within the next several days because he is required to respond within two weeks
after receiving the offer letter. Additionally, a private member appointment
process exists, and the ministry wants the new CEO to com.
Federal
Minister MoITT shall preside as Chairman of the Board in accordance with the
NITB Act, while the CEO NITB will serve as Secretary. Ex-officio members of the
Board will include Federal Secretary MoITT, Federal Secretary of the division
assigned to the business of science and technology, Member IT, DG (Technical)
ISI, and Secretary NITB.
The
Board is granted all of the NITB's financial and operational authority under
the NITB Act. The Board must establish rules, including rules for using its
authority and carrying out its duties, as well as rules for entering into
contracts, agreements, and Memoranda of Understanding. It will have the
authority to acquire, lease, encumber, dispose of, or swap any interest in real
estate, whether it be mobile or immovable.
The
board will provide direction and assistance to the federal government,
ministries, and organisations in order to promote effective and transparent
governance and the use of e-office at a reasonable cost. In addition to many
other tasks associated with the digitalization of ministries and organisations,
it will conduct out requirement assessments, plan and implement IT
capacity-building programmes for federal government personnel, ministries and
divisions.
