For a while now, a feature film adaptation of the anime series Dragon Ball has been available. Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero will be released after Dragon Ball Super: Broly, the final chapter in the Dragon Ball Super series. The new movie, which is being directed by Tetsuro Kodama, produced by Toei Animation, and written by the series' creator Akira Toriyama, is the fourth one of the 24 already released to directly involve Toriyama. The concern is whether the upcoming DRAGON BALL SUPER movie will be able to appeal to the anime audience.
After
the events of Dragon Ball Super: Broly, Goku and Vegeta are gone training with
Whis on Broly's planet. This is where Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero picks up.
With the Red Ribbon Army's resurrection, Earth now faces a new threat. Magenta,
whose father helped design the Androids but was ultimately destroyed by Goku,
the new CEO of Red Pharmaceuticals, seeks to revive his father's legacy by
hiring Dr. Hedo, the grandson of Dr. Gero. Together with Dr. Hedo, Magenta
creates the Gamma 1 and Gamma 2 androids as well as Cell Max, the replacement
for Cell. With his newly formed Red Ribbon Army, the Gammas, and Cell Max,
Magenta is out to defeat the Z Fighters and Capsule Corp.
DRAGON
BALL SUPER: SUPER HERO maintains the same animation design that viewers have
grown accustomed to and adore. Due to Toriyama's involvement directly in the
project, the movie stays true to the original and captures the spirit of the
Dragon Ball series. Tetsuro Kodama directs in a concise and straightforward
manner, skipping any unnecessary preparation and getting directly to the
action. Fans of the series will enjoy watching Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero
because of its funny moments and sharp action.
Not
everything in the movie is perfect, though, as the major antagonist Cell Max
has a lot less screen time than he should. The public anticipates a
full-fledged confrontation between the Z Fighters and Cell Max given their
knowledge that Cell Max is superior to Cell. Unfortunately, the primary
antagonist just appears in the final moments and only engages in one too brief
battle.
It
is not necessary to have watched the previous films or episodes to understand
the perspective plot of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. In actuality, one may
watch the movie by itself and still like it. Similar to how the animation's
visual experience is fluid and flawlessly performed, the background score keeps
spectators seated while also nicely enhancing the action on screen.
In
general, DRAGON BALL SUPER: SUPER HERO is entertaining to watch for newcomers
while maintaining a sense of continuity for series devotees. However, the movie
will struggle at the box office due to its limited distribution, low level of
awareness, and lack of advertisements. SUPER HERO will have to rely heavily on
Dragon Ball Super.
